We visited as a family for a pre-theatre meal. I would urge everyone to try a meal here. All five of us really enjoyed our food. The service was wonderful, and all the waiting staff were so friendly.
Amazing, quality, authentic Italian food – what’s not to love?!

  2. David H

We recently stopped in London, for a couple of nights, close to Buckingham Palace. On the first evening, we fancied Italian, and searching for a restaurant close by, Il Posto was recommended. I’m not one for usually leaving reviews, but our experience of this place was so good, I feel I have to. Echoing many of the comments you will find on here, the welcome and service are excellent, but the food is something else! Is was all so enjoyable that we went back again the following night. If you are staying in the Victoria area of London and are looking for the authentic Italian dining experience, then this place is a must!

  3. Geoff Powell

I visited for the first time Il Posto yesterday evening with a friend who used this restaurant frequently in the past. We asked the waiter for his recommendations though I was born and speak fluent Italian but I still wanted his recommendations. The food was good and there are no complaints.
The Prices were acceptable and I will visit again soon.
The personnel are friendly and genuine.
I recommend anyone to eat at this restaurant.

  4. Colin Smith

First time back at Il Posto since October 2019 and how we’ve missed it. The staff were brilliant, attentive whist being discreet and the food, without question, was superb. Introduced four new family members to the delights of this wonderful restaurant that is so conveniently situated for Victoria station and the West End productions Wicked and Hamilton. Thank you to everyone at Il Posto for enabling us to end our day out with such a delicious meal in cosy surroundings.

  5. I just had the pleasure of visiting Il Posto and was delighted with the new configuration to comply with the virus precautions. The tables are spaced far apart and the place is (as it always was) immaculate. The food is superb and the prices are pre-pandemic, unlike other places who have raised their prices to meet the cost of less patrons and the long period when they had to close. If you are afraid of eating out because of possible infection, Il Posto is the place to go. You can be confident that you are safe there and you will enjoy a delightful meal no matter what you choose on their extensive menu

  6. Pre covid this is the only restaurant I have ever stood outside with others before to wait for a table . I never queue anywhere .The food that I order is sensational , I can only assume that others feel the same because the place was always very busy pre covid .

The staff Luca and his brother are very welcoming and love their customers , I don’t understand this but it’s true . Decent folk providing exceptional food and service .

Social distance is done with care and concern and once you are in the place you will understand this .

Il posto his the dogs .

The night my husband and I were going to the Apollo Theater, I was craving Italian food and had never been to this area of London before. We just took a chance that we would find any restaurant in the area. Lo and behold, right across the street was this wonderful, North End of Boston-like establishment. What a delightful surprise and amazing coincidence for me personally. I loved my Spaghetti Bolognese and the delicious salad. The owner spoke to us about how grateful he was that we had come. He had a vibrant personality, and had been there since the 1980’s. So glad we found this place. I WILL go back when I am in London again. Belissimo!

  8. Tarsim

Fabulous food always. I have never had a bad meal here and enjoy the freshness of the home-made dishes. My mouth is watering just thinking of the del7cious three courses I had at Il Posto on Saturday. Can’t wait for my next visit.

  9. Colin

Eat here for the first time post theatre yesterday, and the customer reviews ring true. Great value, excellent food and fantastic service – nothing too much trouble. They managed to fit our party of five in despite not having a reservation, and the food arrived in good time. The garlic mushrooms starter are like no garlic mushrooms I have tasted before, amazing! A real gem of a place, not a chain but a true independent Italian restaurant. Will be back very soon.

  10. Colin Smith

Another visit to this hidden gem of an Italian restaurant, another fabulous meal. This restaurant is sooooo good. Our food was fantastic and the staff are absolutely wonderful. I really need to find more excuses to travel to London, just to visit this restaurant. ?

  11. Colin Smith

My wife and I had enjoyed a delicious meal at Il Posto previously, so it seemed the obvious choice for pre-concert meal. This time we brought with us three family members who were all vegetarians. The staff were great, friendly and very welcoming. Everyone agreed the food was exceptional, freshly prepared and delicious. Congratulations to everyone involved at Il Posto, it’s a hidden gem of a restaurant.

  12. David Gerrans

Perfect place for a business lunch or an evening dinner. A favourite of mine for past few years, excellent welcome, atmosphere and food. Hard to beat and great value for money.

  13. Deborah LeBretton

My friend and I were visiting London to see Aiden Turner in his play and to catch “Hamilton”. We are at this restaurant after reading the reviews. While the exterior was not one of opulence, the atmosphere and the genuine welcome was wonderful! The food was delicious and served with flare. A perfect place for dinner before the theater

  14. Bree McNairn

When you plan and plan a trip and research restaurants you always have high expectations and hopes. Visiting from Canada and finding Il Posto was one of the best meal decisions we made on our family vacation. We went at a busy time and the owner had a table for us in less than 5 minutes. We felt welcomed and in looking at the menu didn’t feel rushed. The food was heavenly and I think for the first time had real proper Italian food. Makes me sad to know just how far away I am But thankful to experienced it.

  15. Mohammed Qayed

I know this restaurant since 2003. I have tried the first time Margarita Pizza. The taste was wow wow wow. So, I came next day and took another pizza and next day too. So, whenever I visit London this restaurant is a must to visit at least twice during my stay. I have tried also pasta and it is wow wow wow. Their food is really unique and the staff are really great and making some fun things. I just love this restaurant and their food and their staff.

  16. Samantha James Gorvett

Myself and my son had lunch here yesterday before going to see “Wicked”. The service was wonderful and the food amazing, real good value for money, we had travelled up from South Wales in the morning in awful weather, and to find this little haven in the heart of London near to the theatre was just perfect. Thank you

  17. I went to this restaurant with a friend for the first time last night and can’t wait to return. This is a fabulous place. You can tell straight away because the welcome is so warm, genuine and friendly. The service is great and the food! Mama Mia! It’s gorgeous! You sort of feel at home here, it’s professionally run and all the food is fresh, hot and delicious. You feel that this is a place which genuinely loves what they do and it shines through in every respect.

  18. lorraine cree

Went here on Tuesday night for my birthday meal the staff were friendly and came several times to table to make sure we were ok and the atmosphere was great they even sang happy birthday and gave a free dessert with a candle in our party of 6 all enjoyed the meal

  19. Jade Hand

We wanted a lovely meal before we went to the theatre to watch wicked. After reading all the lovely reviews we decided to book il posto as it seemed perfect. Upon arrival the staff were very welcoming and this continued throughout our service and we’re very bubbly the whole time. We were there celebrating the mother in laws 50th birthday to which they sang happy birthday followed with a complementary dessert. It was a perfect meal before a lovely show. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again in the future.

  20. Artie

Four of us enjoyed a delicious dinner and wonderful service before seeing “Wicked” on a Friday night. The hosts and servers were friendly and extremely helpful with ordering. The prices are very reasonable, and the quality of the food superb.
Our group had Salmon, Swordfish, Sea Bass and Spaghetti Bolgnese, and all were excellent. The mussels and bruschetta for appetizers, as well as caprece, arugula, mixed salads and melon & prosciutto were outstanding starters.

  21. Ginny

Eat there for the first time last week before Wicked. Staff very friendly, service very efficient and food excellent. Will definitely be going back in the future.

  22. Pamela Ferreira

I went to il Posto last night with some girlfriends. Food was absolutely delicious real Italian food not some of the fake Italian food you sometimes get. Absolutely delicious. Service was quick and friendly. Would strongly recommend and will definitely be going back. A real gem in the heart of Victoria. Proper Food!

  23. Michelle Dixon

My husband and 3 others were in the UK on business, I happened to tag along. I have to say this was my favorite place to eat during the 14 days we were in the UK. The evening before heading home, upon my request we visited again and the food and staff were fabulous! They even sang Happy Birthday to someone in our group and brought her dessert with a lit candle on top. If I could have packed them all in a suitcase there would have been no hesitation in bringing them all home with me. Love Love Love this restaurant. I would visit the UK again just to experience the food and visit with the staff at Il Posto Ltd.

  24. Danielle Katwaroo

My cousin and I were visiting London for the first time, and came here for dinner before seeing Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. THE FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE. This meal was my favourite from our entire 10 day visit to the UK. The pizza and gnocchi we had were delicious. And the desserts were some of the best we have ever had…creamy, smooth and practically had us licking our plates!! I have recommended this restaurant to EVERYONE I can…the service was fantastic and the food was even better! Thank you for a wonderful meal!

  25. Laura

My family and I visited the restaurant this weekend and we were very impressed with the food and the friendly service. The portions were generous and the lasagne was delicious.

Very authentic restaurant and the staff were attentive and engaging.

    Would definitely come here again.

  26. Richard Potter

Just loved this restaurant. Friendly, great food and great fun. Squeeze into Il Posto soon!

  27. One of the few authentic Italian restaurants left in London. I have been coming here for many years and the food is simply delicious. Last night I ordered an Escalope Milanaisi and I can honestly say its probably the best Escalope Milanesi this side of Milano. The ambiance is superb, the staff friendly and attentive. Just cant fault it. Congratulations on a well run restaurant.

  28. Catharine

We visited at 10.30pm, after watching Wicked and the food was excellent! We had a mushroom risotto, whitebait, calamari fritti & ravoli with porcini mushrooms. It was the best Italian food we’ve had in a while.; authentic & full of flavour. The staff were very friendly & accommodating especially when they close at 11ish. I would definitely come back again. 🙂

  29. Karen Garber

We’re back! The staff is lovely and accommodating, although they didn’t remember us! That aside, the food was just as good as we remembered it. I had gnocchi this time as well as the tricolore salad. The sallad was beautifully presented and the avacado was perfect. The wine list is well priced and offers a good selection. My husband had a pasta dish with asparagus and it was beautifully sauced. The desserts looked beautiful, but we did not indulge. We have eaten at several Italian restaurants in London, all locally owned and this is our favorite.

  30. Richard Malone

I really must thank you and your team for a wonderful evening at Il Posto last week. There were 10 of us, all family, including some from abroad, and we do not have the chance to get together very often. When we do, it is so important for us that it all goes well, and it simply could not have been better, from the warm welcome to the great food, the lovely busy ambience of a true family restaurant, and the equally warm send off afterwards. We all enjoyed ourselves from the youngsters to the oldies.

We now know that once again we chose the right place in coming to Il Posto.

    Thanks again.

  31. Barbara

Myself and a friend were in London for a meeting and decided to stay over. At 5.30pm pm we got tickets for the 7.30pm showing of Wicked. We got a taxi to the theatre but traffic meant we didn’t get there until 6.45 and were hungry. Looked around the area and spotted Il Posto – chatted to the first person we saw and asked could we get something quick to eat. They laughed but said this was not a problem, even though we could see that they had been really busy. The staff were very attentive and the pasta dishes came very promptly. We even had time to enjoy a glass of wine. Wished we could have stayed as the atmosphere was lovely. Thank you so much for accommodated two dotty Belfast ladies!!!

  32. conor w

The staff here were lovely and made us feel welcome even though it was super busy.

  33. Giovanni mammalella

    A very special place!
Luca se leggi questo messaggio sappi che te ne sarò per sempre grato per quello che mi hai insegnato. Un abbraccio da naples

We recently had our staff Christmas meal in this lovely restaurant near Victoria Station. I hadn’t actually been here before but will certainly be a frequent customer from now on after an excellent meal.
The staff and especially the managers are all super friendly and made us feel welcome straight away. There were 17 of us and it was a busy restaurant so you’d forgive them for being a little slow with the service but they were not. Everything came out promptly and on time and the food was fresh, hot and delicious! The prawn and avocado starter was an absolute highlight.
This place does simple, great Italian food but I also want to mention that since it was a Christmas meal they offered to put turkey on the menu and it was great! Best sprouts of the year so far and I eat a lot of sprouts and very generous with everything else. I didn’t actually need my pudding after all that but it was very gratefully received and devoured at the other end of the table!
Finally, there was no hurry here, it’s a busy Christmas period and people were queuing but at no point did we feel rushed to leave at all. We stayed for a post meal drink and were warmly thanked on our way out. Definitely put me in the festive mood and I can only say if you’re in Victoria then you should eat at Il Posto.

  35. karen Garber

We loved the restaurant. We had just returned from Stonehenge and Bath, it was chilly, rainy and cold (hello, London calling) and we were HUNGRY. As we debated the merits of heading into the downtown Victoria area I looked up and saw your sign. It was night and the restaurant does not look nearly as cute as it does in the daylight apparently. But the tables were mostly full, the menu looked good and it was our last night in London. We made a good choice. Your wine selections are very good, the ravioli was yummy and your bread is excellent. The staff is funny and friendly and indulged my very poor and limited Italian. On our next trip you will be our FIRST dinner and not our last. Thank you.

  36. Colin Smith

I booked a table for two on Saturday 14th November at 5.15pm.
On arrival, the restaurant was reasonably quiet, but soon more and more diners were arriving. By the time we left an hour and a half later, the restaurant was packed.
Our meal of chicken medallions with mozzarella cheese, and penne in a spicy tomato sauce was so fresh and delicious.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant to people visiting the Victoria area of London.
Very tasty food at sensible prices. Well done Il Posto!

  37. Kim

Really tasty Italian food. Nice house, red wine, and beautifully displayed dessert. I had the lasagna which proved to be a perfect choice with a good balance of sauce and cheese. We went here before going to the theatre across the street (Wicked), and the service was attentive and timely. I wish I could go back, but alas, I am in the States. The only thing I can say is that you must go here…even if you’re not going to the theatre. Friendly staff and yummy food. My only suggestion is that this restaurant needs to get on Trip Advisor so that more people know about it.

  38. Ken and Judy

We had an excellent meal at Il Posto before the theatre, on our 10th wedding anniversary! My husband had lasagne and l had a chicken/mushroom in white wine dish – both really delicious, promptly served and very reasonably priced. Total bill with drinks, wine and a sweet was just under £50 – a bargain in London, and the staff very welcoming and attentive. We will certainly go back next time we visit the capital……

  39. Ronna

Excellent! I found a true diamond in the gems of London. Thank you for your fabulous service, and primo lasagna! The wine is perfecto!

  40. Mike

What a fantastic Italian! Found through TripAdvisor for a meal after the matinee of Wicked. Booked a table & good job, queue extended out of the restaurant by the time we’d finished around half six. Theses a classical Italian family restaurant & the family atmosphere makes it so much better. Service is prompt & friendly; the menu is extensive & offers something for everyone. We were spoilt for choice, to the point where our waiter had to come back three times before we were ready. Service was prompt after the order & all courses were absolutely delicious.

We cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. It’s a must if you’re in this part of town. We will definitely make the effort to come again next time we are in the area. It’s great to find places that you know you will be able to rely on out of your home town. This one is an absolute “keeper”

  41. Paul

I was lucky enough to find this little restaurant as i searched the Internet for one near the Apollo theatre, this one is right opposite the rear entrance.
I rang and booked a table for 5:30- good job I did, it was full to bursting by 6:15!
What a find! I cannot give them enough praise, extremely friendly as are most Italians, but they really couldn’t do enough for us, everyone so pleasant, attentive and genuine. The food was fantastic! Between us we chose three separate freshly made dishes, baked pizza, risotto, and pasta- they were all to die for! really good and great value ( very important to a Yorkshireman! ) washed down with good tasting red and white wines and finished off with a lemon sorbet that was very refreshing and a chocolate mousse. Was our family impressed? Most definitely – so much so we travelled across London to dine there again for lunch the following day, and will most certainly go again when next visiting London. Do we have any complaints? Just the one…… that it’s not closer to sheffield! Book here with confidence that you will be looked after and have a good dining experience.

  42. Dianne

I came here with friends after the theatre. We didn’t have to wait long for our food & when it arrived it was fantastic. The staff are friendly and very welcoming. I would definitely return here.

  43. Christine

following a long coach journey from Yorkshire four of us visited Il Posto on Saturday 18/10/14 not having much time before we saw the show Wicked.this restaurant was fabulous, fantastic food, very friendly staff, excellent service and moderately priced.

we would certainly recommend you pay a visit when in the area we would certainly go again

  44. Colin

Tried this place for the first time yesterday. We hadn’t booked, but we were found a table straight away – good job we went early, about 5.15 pm, because it got full soon after. The staff were very friendly and the service and food were excellent. Will certainly be going again.

  45. Lorna Fry

I visited this restaurant yesterday before seeing Wicked across the road. Although appearing to be very busy the staff were incredibly friendly and made sure we could get a table and get out in time to see our show. Whilst waiting for a table to clear, we were given menus and ordered. Pretty much as soon as we sat down drinks were ordered followed by our food very quickly. I could not criticise the service in any way. Luca was the highlight of my day. He is so friendly and very sneakily found out it was my birthday and bought me a dessert with the whole restaurant singing me happy birthday. It made my day so memorable and I just want to say what a delight it will be to see you again soon. VERY soon. Love to you all!

  46. Annette Sheridan

Hi, we had a lovely meal after we saw Wicked at Victoria, so good, we would like to book again please! We are due to see Billy Elliott on 28th June for the matinee and would be grateful i you could book a meal for us at 6pm for 5 people.. Many thanks.
    Please email me to confirm

  47. Gerrie Potter

Il Posto is a lovely place to visit for either a quick lunch or leisurely evening meal. I have never been disappointed with the quality of food or service.
I took a party of 16 last week & we received a very warm welcome & our meal was fabulous!
    “Highly recommended”.

  48. Cliff Hodgkinson

I have been visiting Il Posto for the past 5years, but not been there for 18months due to hospitalisation with orthopaedic problems, but well on the mend now, and looking forward to seeing Luca again, and enjoying some lovely italan cuisine. We come down from Sheffield every year for the Remembrance Day Parade, but my wife and me are having a few days together in June, so can’t wait for our visit.

  49. Casper Djernæs

Ate there tonight, wonderfull food, a litle expensive, But the staff, lovely felt like dining with family Great place

  50. Gordon Mackley

We have now visited the restaurant a number of times. The food is good, the service is good and reasonably priced and the staff are freindly. It’s a great oasis in an area where food is genrally overpriced but of poor quality.

  51. Colin

I live above il Posto and visit every couple of weeks. They are such a friendly bunch (especially the owner). Great food, reasonably priced and feels like really authentic italian food. Pizza is great with nice fresh Italian on the side. Gem in central london!

  52. Geoff Jeal

Sorry Lars, but I’ve been eating at Il Posto (formerly Il Portico since the early 60’s when the management was Anna and the very tall Gianny (?), who was there for years and years. Your right, the place is a gem and consistently good. So good that I’m going back tomorrow and taking a group (25) there in June.
For those who enjoy a treat try the Pizza Hooper, created in the 60’s for a regular guest.

  53. I have been coming to Il Posto since 2004 and I have come to love this little place in the heart of London. They always treat you like an old friend they haven’t seen for ages and the food is great.
